Improve Your Communication in Relationships
Whether introvert, extrovert, long talker- short talker- beat around the bush talker or direct to the heart talker, communication is a skill. And it should be healthy, fostered, practiced, and planned.

1. Listening- to hear not respond, listen unoffended. Listen with empathy. This talk may be hard for your person to express. Listen to understand. First listen to Understand THEN to be understood.
Active listening involves:
- Nonverbal involvement positive body language
- Paying attention to what’s being said not your response
- Keeping an open heart….No judgment
- Allowing for silence
2. Don’t interrupt. Sometimes communication is like mining for treasure… it’s not always just laying on the top. When you interrupt, you short circuit the depth of a convo and shut it down. Love is patient. Patient communication means you wait your turn.
3. Don’t over-communicate. That’s a thing! – excessive, to defend, state a case, or manipulate till you get agreement. Stop Pause, give room for others.
4. Use I statements- not blaming, excuse making
5. Keep confidential
6. Pay attention to non-verbal cues. Body language.
7. Ask open ended questions. Care about the other person.
8. Don’t escalate.
9. Affirm others while you communicate. Know their love language. Speak a language they appreciate.
